The Compound Action Potential (CAP) of the Frog Sciatic Nerve

چکیده
a) In mammals, large peripheral nerves, for example the vagus, the sciatic and the ulnar typically are bundles of thousands of individual axons enclosed in a loose connective tissue sheath, the Epineurium. Within the Epineurium, the axons are grouped in fascicles, encased in a more structured epithelial sheath (the perineurium). Each axon is surrounded by a thin connective tissue sheath, the endoneurium. Note that the frog’s sciatic consists of only a single bundle of fibres, surrounded by the perineurium and loose epineurium.

Sciatic Nerve Conduction Velocity and Locomotory Patterns in Frog, Uromastix and Rabbit
The complex interactions among the structural features of axon, its myelin sheath and its length, determine the nature of nerve impulse conduction.. In addition, fibers of different diameters and degree of myelination determine the nerve conduction velocity (NCV). It is therefore, hypothesized that for the same nerve, the NCV may differ in animals, due to the differences in the leg architecture...
متن کاملBisphenol A inhibits compound action potentials in the frog sciatic nerve in a manner independent of estrogen receptors
Although the endocrine disruptor bisphenol A (BPA) is reported to inhibit nerve conduction, the underlying mechanisms are unclear. Therefore, in the present study, we examined the effect of BPA on compound action potentials (CAPs) recorded from the frog sciatic nerve using the air-gap method. Treatment of the sciatic nerve with BPA (0.5 mM) for 20 min reduced the peak amplitude of the CAP by ap...
متن کاملEffects of Various Antiepileptics Used to Alleviate Neuropathic Pain on Compound Action Potential in Frog Sciatic Nerves: Comparison with Those of Local Anesthetics
Antiepileptics used for treating neuropathic pain have various actions including voltage-gated Na(+) and Ca(2+) channels, glutamate-receptor inhibition, and GABA(A)-receptor activation, while local anesthetics are also used to alleviate the pain. It has not been fully examined yet how nerve conduction inhibitions by local anesthetics differ in extent from those by antiepileptics. Fast-conductin...
متن کاملEffects of Odontobuthus Doriae Scorpion Venom on Mouse Sciatic Nerve
Temporary paralysis is a rare manifestation of envenoming following the yellow Iranian scorpion, Odontobuthus doriae (O. doriae). Thus, to elucidate the underlying mechanism, we investigated the neurotoxic effect of venom in the sciatic nerve, the possible mechanism in a mice model. The neurotoxicity and temperature effects in the venom-induced neurotoxicity were examined using the mouse sciati...
